Orange kitchens: Cozy and daring

Orange is a stimulating colour that brings an interesting vitamin tinge. It was all the rage in the 60s and 70s, and after being left in the wilderness for a few decades, now its back as a vibrant option to brighten up your kitchen. If you fancy an orange kitchen for yourself, make a note of these tips so you know what to expect.

Stay optimistic!

We would first recommend using brighter shades of orange. Softer or pastel shades work fine in a bedroom or maybe a living room, but stronger tones are required in a kitchen, like pumpkin, carrot, or mandarin orange, or maybe even a classy terracotta tone.

Combine colors like a pro

An orange kitchen will never be just one color. Be sure to apply the 60-30-10 rule. This is used to combine colors in any space in a home, and the kitchen is no exception.

The figures shown represent the color proportions required: the dominant color must be used for 60% of the space, the secondary color for 30%, and finally, the remaining 10% will be a third color, to add extra detail to the space.

How much orange do you want in your kitchen?

Decide how orange you really want to go in your kitchen, somewhere within the range of intense red to striking yellow. The most daring choice would be to go 60% orange in a space where we usually see more neutral colors.

This 60% could include kitchen cabinets, countertops, or even flooring. If you are going to use orange for 30% of your kitchen, try painting just one wall to add depth and color to the space or find some orange colored kitchen appliances like a refrigerator.

You could also use orange pieces of furniture to create a small office area or even have an orange kitchen sink. Finally, if you would prefer just a tint of orange in your kitchen, try using some striking orange accessories like an orange lamp or a backsplash.

Be sure you want an orange kitchen

Kitchens are the most social part of a home and a great space to try out bold or daring decor choices, they are a real idea factory! Nevertheless, deciding to go for a new or renovated orange kitchen can be costly and there is no room for error, it needs to be right first time.

We suggest asking a studio to create a 3D version of how your kitchen will look before you start work. That way, you will not go all in without a clear vision, and the project’s success will be guaranteed. You’ll also quickly be able to decide between a more serene set up with hints of bright and bold orange alongside more neutral tones, or a more dynamic combination like orange and blue (its opposite color on the color wheel) or green, to create a striking space full of contrasts.

Orange kitchens are back on trend thanks to their multiple benefits as well as being a warm, cozy, and relaxing place to share with others. If you are bold enough to go for an orange kitchen, you’ll have a happy space that is full positive vibes.
